Chet, the narrator of this series of books, is one of my favorite voices in all of literature. He is one-half of the Little Detective Agency with his best friend, Bernie. Together they find themselves buried in a mystery - if only Chet could remember what was going on. Oh yeah, Chet's a dog.Chet is laugh-out-loud hilarious as he comments on what's going on around him, and the plot is fast-paced and interesting. I was critical of a previous novel because it felt a bit stale, but whatever was lost in the last one has been found again - this is a great book and a great series. If you are a dog lover, this is a great series for you This is the first book I've read in the series, and it's a really fun take on the SoCal detective genre - most of the "dog's eye" narrative worked surprisingly well. There's nothing so grippingly suspenseful about the plotting, rather it's the fun of riding along as an author accomplished in the genre plays his variation, without missing the key notes that make this a fun, engaging read. The ride is fun enough that once I got past the first 5 pages, I didn't really want to put it down, and now that I've finished, I'll have this series on my list next time I head over to the library.
