About book A Dead Red Cadillac (2011)

Lalla Bains stumbles into solving this ‘mystery’ after her red Cadillac is discovered in a lake with a widowed piano teacher in it. What makes Lalla an interesting and appealing crime solver is that she’s an ex-model with a string of ex-husbands to her name, that’s resisting hitting the big 4-0 and is currently working as a crop-duster.Basically she’s different. Different to any other ‘sleuth’ I’ve read about in recent years. She might not always be likable, but aren’t we all flawed? The ups and downs of Lalla Bains is what makes her real and relatable. On the whole I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am keen to follow up the author’s series. It’s not a heavy, emotionally draining read, you won’t have trouble sleeping at night and you will be able to put the book down, but that doesn’t make it bad – that’s what works in its favor. It’s an engaging story and flows well allowing you to enjoy the unfolding mystery. It’s a fun, light read and if that’s what the author was hoping to achieve – then she succeeded. A good mystery. The author pulled me in at the very first paragraph and kept me in her grasp until the very end of the story. The plot had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing (mostly guessing incorrectly) until the very end.I would have liked to have a little more of the character’s background revealed but that being said, they were likable people who were very real. I found them easy to connect with. I liked Lalla. We all have a past that has shaped who we are today and so do the characters in the story. That makes them human.I appreciated the fact that the language was clean. I find that I am more likely to recommend a book to a friend when the characters are not dropping the F bomb every other sentence. While I did receive a copy of this book for free in exchange for this honest review, I purchased the next book in the series before sitting down at the keyboard to write this review.

Fun, fast read. Reminded me a little of the Stephanie Plum books.
