I’m torn on my opinion of Not Quite a Wife by Mary Jo Putney. I love the fact that Laurel is involved with a women’s shelter as well as a clinic. Through her work, the story brought attention to several women’s issues and showed that deep down Laurel is a giving and caring person. I also fell in ...
I just discovered Mary Jo Putney and have been racing through some of her backlist. Her books for me are usually 4 stars . . .but not this one so far. Frankly, I've found it depressing and some aspects (the initials) disturbing. The tension in the book isn't between the H/h. It's about whether th...
Decided to reread the series after I read the newest one. I enjoyed all the characters in the book, and only vaguely remembered the villian-amnesia befalls Adam, he is found by Mariah and mayhem and love ensues. Adam is 1/2 Indian and has had a difficult life after becoming a Duke, Mariah has had...
Woman fishes a nearly unconscious man out of the ocean. When she realizes he has lost his memory, she tells him she is his wife. It sounds perfectly plausible to him and he settles into his life, running off the suitor who was causing the woman so much trouble. But he has another life. He's a d...

Title: Never Less Than A LadyThe Lost Lords SeriesAuthor: Mary Jo PutneyGenre: Historical RomanceReview Rating: Five StarsReviewer: Linda Hays-Gibbs Two broken people with scars on their bodies and in their hearts find each other and believe there may be a chance for happiness. This is a stru...
I so enjoy Mary Jo Putney's books. Populated with interesting, complex characters and supported by intelligent plot lines, they are a joy to read. This one was no disappointment; take a capable, unconventional female spy and pair her with a traumatized nobleman in post-Treaty of Amiens France and...
What happened to MJP? This series is nowhere as good as the Silk one, and seems somehow familiar. Sarah is kidnapped by Irish revolutionaries who think she is twin, a duchess. A disowned second son of lord, Rob, who just happens to be a Bow Street runner, just happens to stop in to visit the duke...
Sarah's very pregnant twin sister is the target of a political kidnapping by a radical group in Ireland. Thinking quickly, she pretends to be her sister and is taken to Ireland shortly before her sister goes into labor. As luck would have it, Rob Carmichael arrives for a visit just in time to res...
I haven't read the other books in this series, so that may be part of why this book was so tedious to read. Putney had to explain a lot which really stunted the story. However, I found myself repeatedly thinking, "eww!" so many times. The attraction between Sarah and Rob felt contrived.I just didn...
Another improbable but wholly enjoyable Regency romp by Mary Jo Putney. Lady Kiri Lawford is not the prime and proper English woman she wants to be. Daughter of a Hindu princess and an English general, now deceased, Kiri is the step-daughter of General Lord Ashford and sister to the Duke of Ashfo...
I was waiting for Kiri, our heroine, to cure cancer by the end of the novel, but she didn't quite manage it. What a slacker! She seems to know how to do EVERYTHING ELSE. I love Mary Jo, but this wasn't one of my favorites. It was just a bit forgettable since the story was so like so many of her o...
I love Mary Jo Putney and her Lost Lords series just happens to be one of my favorites. This is book six in the Lost Lords series and boy, oh boy was it a fantastic read.Talk about a swashbuckling, fast , exciting tale about finding love and second chances. The characters were an absolute delight...
Very meh. I like several of these authors but this is not a particularly good collection. I actually admire the concept of giving each of the Word Wenches a story, but there must have been too stringent a length limit because all of the stories feel too short. My favorite was the one by Anne Grac...
The following refers to "Seduced by Starlight"Loved this little story about Matthew and Jane's daughter Blossom and Lindsay and Anais' son Jace. (From "Sinful" and "Addicted") It was so fun to see Matthew as the doting, over-protective father. Well, well, Wallingford, it seems some of the rakishn...
This book was amazing. It was truly beautiful!!!! I would give it a 4.7 stars because there are some parts of the book wherein I was either confused or angry. The book features the couples Jocelyn and David and Sally and Ian . The main couple is Jocelyn and David. Sally is David's sister and Ia...
This wasn't as good as the 2nd book The China Bride. I was hoping given the interesting premise and heroine I would delve right it into it. The heroine Lady Meriel Grahame hasn't talked for 15 years since the night her parents were killed in a violent ambush in India. She was kidnapped by the reb...
I wrote a similar review for MJP'S The Rake. As a romance novel this book merits 3 stars; however, as a historical fiction this book deserves 5 stars. You know 'comfortable' is a dangerous state of being...because it is tantamount to a constant state of being which allows no room for change and t...
Lord Ross Carlisle is the perfect British aristocrat. He’s handsome, and will one day be a duke. He is calm, fair, and highly intelligent, a bit of a philosopher, with an inquiring mind, and is master of many sports and other manly pursuits. And he loves to explore the far corners of the earth and...
Review of Kindle Edition of classic Regency historical romanceLord Robert Andreville (Robin) is in his early 30s and has become extremely burned out and depressed from two causes: The woman he wanted to marry, a fellow spy who for many years worked with him for the British government against Napo...
This is an anthology featuring the stories as follows:The Snow Rose by Susan King (5 stars)This was an incredibly sweet story and I absolutely loved it. I loved the romance between Catriona MacDonald and Kenneth Fraser who were from families that had feuded for a long time. In fact Catriona's fat...
This is an excellent book. For those of us who love exotic settings check this one out. It takes place in India in 1841. The hero has lost an eye and spends part of the book impotent. It's so cool to have a hero who is far from perfect but just scrumptious. I really loved Ian and I think I might ...
I had an impulse to hold the hem of this story and to let it walk me around. That is the child in me talking, needing comfort, something/somebody to look upon. In the world of reading, in the genre of HR, you won’t find a better book to admire, to get fascinated with, to mold your opinions around...
Another book in the Fallen Angels series, but very special because it is Micheal's story who has waited so long to find love when he hasn't ever had it in his long life. We get lots of flashbacks in the beginning of the story to set up and explain why Micheal is so messed up and slightly insane b...
Caroline Hanscombe hates the London Season. She has made all attempts to turn the gentlemen away, much to her stepmother's dismay. Her only place of refuge is with her widowed Aunt Jessica who allows Caroline to be herself. Jason Kinkaid, Lord Radford has finally decided to take a wife since he l...
I love art so it’s not a surprise that I enjoyed River of Fire so much. This is probably the best portrayal of artists I’ve seen in romance and I give kudos to Ms. Putney for taking the time and effort to do a thorough research about art in this time period. The hero, the heroine AND her father ar...
It is amazing what you can learn when you are reading a good book. This is such a book. It takes place after the battle of Waterloo. I can only imagine all the arguing and fighting that went on during the negotiations for the treaty that ended the war. Feelings were running so high and so man...
Very enchanting wonderful story filled with suspense, adventure and emotional angst-filled trials. Surprised the hell out of me how much I enjoyed it. This was a 5 star read from the beginning. If it wasn't for the 2nd half of the book I would have given this a 5 star without hesitation. I though...
Intriguing Premise and Complex Characters"They called him the Demon Earl, or sometimes Old Nick. Hushed voices whispered that he had seduced his grandfather's young wife, broken his grandfather's heart, and driven his own bride to her grave."FINAL DECISION: Highlighted by a great premise that p...
Hollywood actress tries her hand at directing a motion picture & asked her almost-ex-husband to star in her movie. He reluctantly agrees & warns her that playing his emotionally-laden role will be very hard for him. Filming the movie serves to draw them closer, brings up their unresolved marital ...
This is a nice, light read. The basic idea is a tried and true plot line but the execution is rather different. The middle of the book is a bit dark. The pacing is a bit slow. There's a lot of descriptive details about steam engines and astronomy which are very boring. The ending is a bit rushed....
First off I want to say that this is fiction/fantasy and not real life so what I think of the H/h in this story has nothing to do with real life situations. This could have been a pretty good story, imo, had the author been a better writer. I'm not sure what the copyright date is and I hope for her...
