About book Zu Viele Flüche (2011)

Summary:Margle the Horrendous is a wizard that is cruel. He likes to curse people into objects and animals. Nessy, a kobold, tends to Margle's castle and makes sure everything runs smoothly. After Margle dies, Nessy finds the castle doing strange things and tries to fix the problems one at a time. What I liked:A. Lee Martinez's style is similar to Terry Pratchett and Christopher Moore. It's humorous with eccentric characters. The plot is well paced and I liked how Martinez does dialogue. Nessy, as the protagonist, is practical without being robotic and compassionate without being weepy. i like how Martinez gives personalty to not-really-alive things as well. Overall, a very good and quick read. What I wasn't that fond of:There isn't much that I didn't like about this book. I did want to see a little setting outside the castle but I think that is more just a fancy of mine than something that would actually suit the story line. Another excellant read from one of my favourite authors! The man is a fantasy comedy wizard! The story is about Nessy, the keeper of a powerful wizard’s castle. She makes sure the floors are swept, the bleeding wall is regularly mopped, and the strange creatures in the dungeons are fed the right foods at appropriate intervals. Once the wizard inadvertently gets himself killed, it’s up to Nessy to keep the castle and its inhabitants from the possibility of even greater harm than the usual mix of magical nonsense running awry. Lots of fun characters both good and evil abound in this sweet story about whether Nessy can keep control when all hell is breaking loose around her. Excellant and fun read and highly recommeded!

Easy to read. Entertaining twist to the genre, that will appeal to an old D&D player like me.
