Back in the late 80's and early 90's there was the Star Wars movies. That was pretty much it. In my small, yet growing town where I grew up, we didn't have much for good books. I didn't know there was a Lando trilogy, and I wasn't really that taken with Brian Daley's Han Solo stories. But I found this book at the library. This book, and entire series is beyond absurd. It's awful in some ways. Not Jar Jar Binks awful, but awful. But at the time I read it, this was what there was, and I loved it. There was more of Han, Luke, Leia and the empire to fight. It was new adventures of the characters I loved. That was what I needed. Because of this book, I tracked down and read the rest. I only wish I knew what Ken Palpatine was up to from the end of this series on up through the NJO era. Kevin J. Anderson should write that series. My rating is based upon my memory of reading it as a 14 year old. It does not hold up, it's cheesy, it's silly. But back then, it was what there was. Pick this book up. Pretend there are 3 movies, a couple of hard to find tangential books you haven't read and imagine being sad that Star Wars was done. Imagine being sad that all of the Star Wars figures at Kay-Bee are on clearance and going away and your parents can't or won't buy them for you. Probably both. Imagine being so hungry for more Star Wars and there was nothing else to fill that void. No internet. No prequels. No expanded universe yet. Imagine that you desperately need an escape from the horrors of middle school and Star Wars is that escape.Get yourself in that frame of mind, pick up the Jedi Prince series and take off.
