out of all the zombie fiction I have read, this is probably so accurate to how it could ever happen and how people react. the zombies are infected by a government style medical agency, which is the most likely out of all zombie theory's.The high school Kids that the book focuses on, are all different: you have bobby (our pov) - new kid born England raised Americano, Smithy - cheeky bad boy... nuff said, Alice - the blonde make up obsessed ditz and you got pete - the techy pale stay indoors geek. in life or death, you don't get your pick of survival buddies and having polar opposite kids stuck together is good comedy all round and no matter which kind of teen is reading, they can at least relate to one character.McKay keeps the teens ability's fairly realistic which is nice cause we all have read the typically "theres zombies - all of sudden the main characters are invincible survivors " kind of book and Undead doesn't really follow that (sure the nerdy pete can drive a truck but smithy almost dies so woo its as real as zombie fiction can get).the humour is good, the characters are fun and there's a giant zombie dancing carrot man. what's there not to like? This was so grusomely funny! Easily one of my favourite zombie books of all time. My favourite quote: 'I think that's a bloke...Oh wait, no. There's a boob hanging out' hilarious. The characters are just so funny yet are still serious and fight hard when they need too. Smitty and Bobby are by far my faves. The novel also takes a slight dark undertone in the sense that people can be shown as cruel with the choices they make (namely the adults in this book). The author isn't afraid to be controversial with who gets infected with the zombie virus either, though I have to admit it's written tastefully, there isn't unnecessary death or goriness and it's written with a wit I thought it would be impossible in a zombie book.Don't get me started on the giant carrot. Say it with me now: 'Carrot man veggie juice, put some fire in your belly!' legendary.P.s I listened to the audio version of this, the voice actress nailed the accents brilliantly!
