About book Zero Sight (2011)

For the life of me, I can't figure out why this book has such good reviews. The story is derivative, the characters are one-dimensional stereotypes, and the premise is formulaic. But that's not what made me hate the book. I can enjoy a good popcorn book if it's well-written. Such is not the case here.I know you're supposed to "write what you know," but it was clear that Dieter was a cipher for the author with minimal development tossed in. Dieter utterly fails at sounding even remotely believable as a character. His actions sound like what a 50 year old Mormon kind of thinks a 17-year-old might act like based on third and fourth-hand accounts. His interactions with the female characters are painful and yet completely improbable. No teenager living in Las Vegas is that naive and chaste. Instead of making him sympathetic, it makes him creepy and unrelatable. The dialogue is ridiculous. No one speaks like this, especially not a 17-year-old kid. "Egads." Really? I honestly had to stop reading the book after the 20th grammatical error/typo I reported to Amazon. The poor editing became such a distraction, I couldn't even concentrate on the story (such as it was.) I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I was looking for something different, specifically an urban fantasy from a male pov. When I found this title on goodreads I noticed that it had a modest following but overall positive reviews. The kindle edition was super cheap so I decided to give a shot. Wow...just wow! The witty prose and intriguing plot pulled me right along until the very end. I'm about to start the next book, and I really hope that it stays on this well set track. This book should be way more popular than it is.
