Oh Zane, how I love thee. You have the biggest badass character of all badass characters, and you know when he's going to fall, he's gonna fall hard. I love reading the stories of men who seem to be the darkest, least likeable person. They're the men you can't wait to fall victim to the love bug, because it's always epic. Zane is no different. He's emotionally scarred and unavailable and he's paired with a, gasp, virgin, the sweetest, most innocent of beings. The sexual charge between Zane and Portia can be felt steaming off the pages. And you can see the emotional change within Zane taking place. Redemption is sweet. Another wonderful love story from Tina Folsom. This was such an interesting and very entertaining book. I wasn't sure how Folsom would handle Zane's experiences in the concentration camp, but she did an amazing job of describing the cruel way in which prisoners were treated without making it so horrific that I couldn't continue the story. I think Folsom's writing gets better with each book and this one was packed with tension, humour, and a very compelling plot. Zane was a great character, honourable, troubled, loyal, and very much worthy of redemption. Portia was an equally strong albeit initially somewhat naive counterpart. But once she made up her mind about Zane there was no stopping her. This story held my attention from page one to the very end. I highly recommend this series.
