(2012). Z is for moose. New York, NY: Greenwillow Books.Booklist Editor's Choice, Books for Youth AwardsAlphabet Zebra, a no nonsense kind of guy, is diligently coordinating an alphabet show, however his good friend Moose, is not cooperating. The humorous antics of Moose's excitement to be included in the show turn into sheer disappointment when a mouse was cast for the letter M instead of Moose. Whereas, leading to Moose creating havoc for the remaining letters until Zebra found a very special place for him at the conclusion of the show. This fun-loving book, full of bright illustrations, is perfect for any Pre-K- 2nd grade classroom. I love how the Times New Roman letters are easy to see and colorful compared to the rest of the sentence typed in black. This is a great read-aloud book since there are several hilarious comments in speech bubbles that add to the humor of the book. Educators can take this book one step further by making a class alphabet book of their own using different items for each letter. Young students would also benefit by bringing Moose and Zebra to life through the use of puppets using oral vocabulary skills, comprehension by re-telling the story, letter recognition, and discussing how to treat your friends by helping them feel included. Such an enjoyable, laugh-out-loud kind of book that can put a smile on anyone's face!
