About book Wolves, Boys And Other Things That Might Kill Me (2010)
I have a slight obsession with Yellowstone. I am continually plotting ways whereby I can live there. So when I heard this book took place in the park and surrounding areas, I was excited to read it. I was fascinated by the stories and information about the wolf packs and plan to read about what from the book is true and what is fictionalized. The main story itself is filled with the usual teenage angst and awkwardness. KJ lives with her widowed Dad year round in West End, and becomes intrigued by the new boy Virgil who is living for a year in the area while his mom studies the wolves.7/14 So far, this is a good book. K.J. is the daughter of a tour guide at Yellowstone Park. She's never gotten much attention from guys and never felt confident in herself. But, then she gets attention from two guys--one is named Virgil, who is the new guy in a small town. The other is a wolf, who looks into K.J.'s eyes and blasts her with super confidence powers. Maybe it's not that dramatic, but she does suddenly feel more brave and outgoing. Honestly, I haven't finished it yet. I swear I'll write another review once I am. The only thing that's bothered me so far is how cliche the "love at first sight" moment is between K.J. and Virgil. She just can't stop thinking about him and her heart races every time she hears his voice! So, yeah, that happens in real life but in books it's become so dramatic and common. I love that this book didn't turn out to be about werewolves. It looks like it's taking an environmental approach--save the wolves and all that. We'll just have to see.
