This is the story of Abby and Beck. I'm labeling this review as a spoiler because it's one of those stories that you can't explain unless you give away pieces of it. Abby had just had a heart transplant. She had always lived her life in fear that everything she did would be the last. Until she got a new heart. She has over-protective parents and only one friend - Caroline, who is also sick with cancer.She meets Beck when she goes to buy an urn - which is a symbol for her breaking away of her fears and finally being free. That's when she tells him about her 2 week road trip. He insists on joining her, for no apparent reason. And being pushed by Caroline to go and live for both of them, she accepts. So, the road trip starts. Abby feels alive, only because of Beck. They visit places, they kiss, they have fun and they laugh, they go swimming and that was one of my favorite parts - while they swim in the ocean. But then, the road trip gets cut short because Caroline dies. Abby is heartbroken, but Beck is there to get the pieces back together. Soon enough, they end up continuing their road trip, headed for Marfa, to see The Lights - something Beck wanted to do. That's where Abby starts to get sick. From fear of ruining the moment, she keeps silent. And then she doesn't wake up in the morning. It's true what the author says in this book. Love is selfless and selfish. Abby forces herself to let go of Beck because, what has she got to offer? And Beck leaves because he's tired of trying to convince her to let him stay and his ego is shattered. And a year later, when Abby goed to Boston after Beck and asks him to meet her by The Alchemist's statue by putting flyers all over the MIT campus, that's where it ends. I wish I could've known more about Beck. We only get a chapter from him, and a short one at that, and it only involves his thoughts on Abby. I kind of wished it had ended differently, but it was a pretty amazing read. I actually didn't want to continue reading this book after a few chapters. Not because I didn't like it, no, but because I liked it so much, I loved it, that I was afraid it might break my heart once I finish it. I didn't want this book to break my heart because it was so beautiful and sweet. It's the kind of story that gives you a fee-good-feel so it's illegal for authors to give it a heart-breaking ending.
