I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've picked up from the library for my ten-year-old daughter but my son read it instead, and then he urged me to read it because it was such a wonderful read. I must say he is absolutely right! The Love family provides a model for us as parents. They also inspires us to give of ourselves to love others, especially those whom the world does not value, just as how the Lord has taught us in His Word. Occasionally I read this kind of book but they are never my cup o' tea. I saw this had received awards and thought I would give it a try. I think it was a good story as these types of stories go. I scan-read as much as possible. That usually means an automatic 2 stars but I think it had to do with my dislike or avoidance of these types of poignant atories, so I am going to rate this a 3, which means I liked it okay but would not recommend it to someone else. However, it really was a 2 for me and I would recommend it to someone who likes these feel-good, coming of age stories.
This is a sweet book, with great characters, and a solid voice. (I really love a solid voice.)
