Legacy of Shannara--let's see. Ohmsfords, Leah's, Elessidils--check. Elves, dwarves, gnomes, trolls, demons, rovers, Ulk Bogs, people--all check. The King of the Silver Lake, the Grimpond, the Ellcrys, the Tanequil, the Ilse Witch, Tael Riverine--check again. An evil Prime Minister of the Federation, a good Elf King, a bad Elf King--more checks. And, of course, a trip to the Hadeshorn and an appearance by Allanon. Mix all the legacies together with multiple quests and a quick, enjoyable read, even if it is similar to what has gone before. I have been reading this series of books for the last thirty years and my Love for Mr. Brooks is undimmed in that time. Having said that this particular series of books has been a bit disappointing. It is the same story as Elfstones just told over three books instead of one, and the one book was better. I felt like I could have skipped entire sections of the story and still ended knowing what had happened. Also it really felt recycled like all the set pieces and characters had been used before and here they were again. I really hope Mr. Brooks starts writing something other than Shannara books soon so as to get away from the same old same old.
