About book Winter King: Henry VII And The Dawn Of Tudor England (2012)
If you are interested in the players entwined in the War of the Roses, or curious about how the Tudor dynasty came into power, this book, which is non-fiction, reads as easily as historical fiction, with much more authority. Very interesting, learned so much about Henry the VIII's childhood and parentage, including some things I did not know about the events surrounding his marriage to Catherine. I love this era and loved this book, well done Mr. Penn! Interesting, but I found the author's habit of skipping back and forth made it difficult to keep track of who was doing what when. The start of the book in particular felt very disjointed. I'm ok when Tarantino does it, but I prefer history in chronological order. The book focused heavily on the politics of Henry's reign, the constant intrigue and conspiracy that contributed to Henry's lack of security and paranoia. Numerous interesting tidbits sprinkled throughout, but overall not quite my cup of tea.

History should not be written like this. Why I didn't like history in school.
