About book Wiśniowy Klub Książki (2013)

The Cherry Cola Book Club is a light fun read. I enjoy these types of books every once an awhile. The story is kind of a predicable one where a young attractive Maura Beth is "director" of very small library in Cherico, Miss. Councilman Sparks doesn't think the library is worth the tax payer's money to keep it open. So, the gauntlet is laid to keep the library open with a number of colorful characters participating in the process. As the book club reviews, Gone With the Wind and To Kill a Mocking Bird, the reader is also is presented with same questions as the characters. So it is thought provoking. Overall, I just thought the story was solid, interesting and entertaining. The library in the fictional town of Cherico, Mississippi, is in crisis mode. It is small, out-dated, and patrons are sparse. The city council is threatening to close it down and bulldoze it, replacing it with an industrial park. Librarian Maura Beth is given six months to increase usership or find herself out of a job and the town without a library. Determined to keep the library, and her income, alive, Maura Beth decides to start a book club. At first they begin with only six people. It becomes known as the Cherry Cola book club because the granddaughter of one of the members can't pronounce Cherico and says it as Cherry Cola. As the months pass, the members of the group grow increasingly close on a personal level and begin an all-out quest to increase the size of the book club, interest in the library, and in the process, help out each other with daily life issues. This is a charming little book, with another that follows, so obviously the campaign to save the library succeeds, at least for a time. The characters are interesting and quirky, the story is a good one, and the author is quite witty. The reader discovers that the city council has never been known for having an excess of integrity, that the receptionist for the city council is personality free, and that the Mississippi dialect leads to some interesting interpretations of what's on the menu at the local café.
