About book William Shakespeares Star Wars - Fürwahr, Eine Neue Hoffnung (2014)

I listened to this audiobook, and I am fairly confident in saying that this is the best audiobook production I have ever heard. An amazingly talented full cast has been combined with the score from the films and the classic sound effects we've all come to know and love. The wit and hilarity of it all being re-told Shakespearean style is the cherry on top.The Shakespearean element actually brought a few things to the traditional story: a bit more emotion and insight into the psychology of the characters, and some things were keenly illustrated that I completely missed in the films (for example: Biggs. Never realized it was Luke's childhood friend who dies beside him right before he takes out the death star). Also R2-D2 has been given an internal monologue and takes on the role of "Wit" in the play, understanding far more than he lets on and occasionally manipulating events to bring about fortuitous circumstances. The writing was also very often clever, pointing out ironies and playing on words as Shakespeare does, as well as alluded to specific works of Shakespeare himself ("What light through yonder flashing sensor breaks?").Interjections from the stormtroopers, chorus, and even the stage directions made me laugh and were entertaining. The cast truly shined, delivering a great performance that was a delight to listen to. This will be my go-to recommendation for families going on road trips and wanting something light but entertaining. I have to admit, I was not sold on this idea. I really like both star wars and Shakespeare, and I was not sure what they would be like combined. A few friends recommended them, so I have them a chance, and I was pleasantly surprised. The whole thing is really clever and well done. It was fun to spot lines that were made over from specific Shakespearean plays, and the artwork is awesome. Hats off to your creativity, Ian Doescher!
