A lot of the book extends outside of the realm of hiring. That's not a bad thing per say--hiring is a small piece of a larger way of approaching work, which spans to include networking on one end, and performance evaluations on the other. I'm not ready to buy into their practices wholesale, so I found that only 30-40% of the book was useful. That being said, the general idea of trying to remove "voodoo hiring" from your processes and make it more objective was the sort of thing I was looking for. I'll try to apply the spirit of the methodology in this book, if not the exact practices. The authors describe the four steps of their hiring method in just the right amount of detail, neither bogging the reader down in minutiae nor leaving important matters to the imagination. They use real-life anecdotes to connect their advice to actual business problems and issues. Many books about human resources tend to be long on vague generalizations and short on actionable, how-to information. getAbstract thinks this book is a standout and recommends its straightforward ideas to anyone who is responsible for hiring.
