About book Whisper My Secret (2012)

J B Rowley discovers a tin box hidden way back in her Mom's closet when she was a child. At the bottom she discovers three birth certificates that have different names from her and her siblings. She assumes her Mom had to change their names, hurriedly puts the box back before she is caught, and gives it little thought till after her mother's death. Further investigation turns up that she is not one of 7 siblings, but one of ten. The other three were literally taken from her mother's arms, and her subsequent children were none the wiser. This is a fictional memoir that just grips your heart. My only criticism of the book is that the end seemed a bit rushed, but I believe that at that time the author planned another book to continue the story. It is a heart-breaking story that had me in tears in the first chapter. What a courageous and strong woman JB's Mom was! This book, a biographical novel of the author's mother, would be well chosen for a book club. So many questions..Why did Etti react to Myrtle's pregnancy by forcing...? Why did she appear so cold...? Did Audrey and Noel grow up as Henry's children? Why was Ma Bishop so cruel, considering her own past? Why did Mr. Bishop never helpMyrtle? Definitely waiting for the author to write a sequel, especially to know if Sweet Bertie managed to live a happy, peaceful life.
