About book Wherever You Are: My Love Will Find You (2012)
I first read this beautiful book when a friend's husband died suddenly. I read it briefly, gave it as a gift to my friend's son, and didn't think about it again. I'm so glad to have the chance to revisit this heartfelt book about love. The message and illustrations are just right to convey a parent's love for their child. My current favorite page…"So hold your head high and don't be afraid to march to the front of your own parade. If you're still my small babe or you're all the way grown, my promise to you is you're never alone."It's definitely a RWK (Read With Kleenex), but so worth it! Many readers are familiar with Nancy Tillman's book, ON THE NIGHT YOU WERE BORN. Add this to her list of remarkable books. Six months ago, the day after my good friend passed away, I was at a bookstore with her five year old daughter, who believed her mother was just at the hospital. As I watched this sweet-heart play with some toy trains, my eyes were drawn to this book. I took it from the shelf and began to read. I couldn't think of a better message for this little girl than to keep laughing, loving, dancing, . . . all the while knowing that her mother still loved her and wasn't so far away. I bought the book immediately. Later, when this little girl was told that her mother was in heaven and wouldn't be coming back, she asked to see me. Her grandma drove her to my house right away. In her sweet, innocent voice she told me that her mommy had died. I pulled her into my arms, opened this book, and read. She smiled, told me that she liked the story, and asked me to read it again. (As if I could ever say no to her.) We talked about how she is the little girl in the story and that she will always have her mother's love. I reminded her that she may not be able to see her mommy, but her mommy will see her and love her forever. This is a gorgeously illustrated, beautifully written book. I felt like it was written for my dear friend's daughter, but your child doesn't require a loved one in heaven to enjoy it. It may not have been written with that in mind, at all. It's a wonderful book and well worth owning.
