I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley and Troubador Publishing Ltd. When the Siren Calls is a contemporary erotic romance about a married who feels unfulfilled in her marriage and finds herself torn between having an affair and being faithful to her husband.The story line is somewhat predictable; the author's descriptive backdrops of Tuscany/England are interesting. The pace is rather slow and quite frankly I had to come back to this book several times before really being able to get into it. The characters are flat and insipid; I really had a hard time identifying with any of them because they just didn't seem personable at all. There is cussing, sex scenes, and a scene where a woman gets taken advantage of while drunk. The cover doesn't make sense to me however it is a little haunting. A hard read. 1.5 out of 5 Stars The author is a great guy and writes really well hence the 3 stars but the story didn't do it for me. The cover photo for a start was good but the text? I didn't quite get it.. It didn't flow with it.Okay, the story was not my thing really. I felt some things were unnecessary. I really didn't know where to place it on the romance novel scale.. A bit of here and there I guess.I enjoyed the mixed culture and the British side of it which I could relate very well with not excluding a bit of the Italian side too. Overall, I think the book is still a good read for those who enjoy novels of this nature. I think I did not particularly like some bits of it because this is not really my thing. However, my review should discourage no one. Read it and make your own review, I am sure it will be worth it.
