About book Whatever Happened To Pudding Pops?: The Lost Toys, Tastes, And Trends Of The 70s And 80s (2011)

I just loved this book -- so many memories! It would have been great to have photos of each entry, but the descriptions were usually enough to jog my memory. Each description was just the right length and usually made me laugh out loud; I read them all, even the things I didn't remember or know of. (I'm more of a late 60s to late 70s kid; by the time the mid 80s came around I was already married and too old for some of this stuff.) This book was what I intended it to be; a very quick read for a few laughs. I am, much like my friend who read and reviewed this book before me, about 4-5 years too young to truly appreciate this book. I was hoping for a better balance of 70's and 80's references, but felt the book was pretty 70's-centric overall. The only reason I got as many of the 70's references as I did is because I have 4 older siblings who passed down some of their 70's-tastic toys to me. There were a few nice moments that I enjoyed, though. Among them:-Fashion Plates: God, I loved to create cool ensembles with that little black crayon!-Dynamite magazine: I used to order this from Scholastic Book Company and had totally forgotten about it and its über-80's rainbow logo.-Scratch n' Sniff stickers: Found some of my old ones at my parents' house over the holidays and their smells were as strong as ever!-Micro Magic Fries: Oh, how I loved these back in the day!-Fisher Price Little People: I especially enjoyed the reference to the mixed family blending Little People with the square little Playskool McDonald's employees. I did that all the time!-McDonaldland Commericals: Mayor McCheese, the Fry Guys, the Hamburgler, Grimace...that really took me back!Another clever feature of the book was the authors' extinction ratings for each entry (i.e. "Gone for good", "Still going strong"). If you enjoy pop culture and nostalgia, then this is a fun little read.
