I finished this, which felt like more of an accomplishment than it ought to have. I've been struggling to get into most books lately, so it probably wasn't its fault, but I just really couldn't get into it. The one saving grace was reminding myself that Rhyn was somewhat like Mal.But insta-love and big assumptions about who the other is based on little to no evidence? So not for me. Nor is the Big Misunderstanding. And when space stories work for me, I love them, but that seems to be the exception. So I doubt I'd have loved this story even if I'd read it at another time. I really only finished it because it was for Bingo, otherwise it would probably have been a DNF (even as short as it was, which was, frankly, one of my favorite things about it. That, and the resemblance to Mal). It's a very sweet story that you can read quickly. Even if it's short, the world building is sketched with no info dumping. I would like to know more about Rhyn, especially about his past. The story revolves around the Contact moment, the first meeting of two people and how their life begins to change after that, the difficulties they have to go over to have a chance together. We have a promise of a future for the characters, but it's not part of the story. Lore was the more vivid character and I confess I have a soft spot for felines, so he's partially feline nature made him perfect (even if it's not a shifter story, Lore's species has feline traits). If you like m/m sci-fi romance, it's the book for you.
