Highly enjoyable book. This is the 4th book by Boyle that I have read and he just is one writer that I can keep coming back to. Reminds me of some of the similar issues we read about in The Tortilla Curtain, but Boyle just seems to be able to get into all of his characters and point out the flaws, the issues and even the similarities between adversaries. Each chapter is about 20 pages long, and there is not a ton of quick reading dialogue, but his prose and the dialogue that he uses is powerful and he really seems to have the characters voice in all the dialogue. If you are not into fluff novels, and enjoy a really well-written thought provoking writer then TC Boyle is your man, and this is another fine effort. My favorite author -- this narrative seemed a distinctive departure from the style I am accustomed to in his short stories; but I still really enjoyed it. Deep character backgrounds and self-introspection frame a simple story of environmental conflict -- the real story lies in the connection of the characters and their backgrounds. As always exemplary vocabulary and descriptive visuals. Thanks TC.

Impeccable environmental research; good story. A little wordy but splendid writing.
