About book We The Children (Keepers Of The School, #1) ARC (2010)
I wasn`t terribly impressed with this book. Some of the parts of the story didn`t quite go with the story-line. Like the sailing race. Ben and Jill want to keep their school open, and not have it bulldozed down for an amusement park. When they try to do extra research, it doesn`t go as expected. The beginning and end of story didn`t go together. There are certain people I`d recommend it to, but not many. Lexile Level: 860Pages: 143Summary: The first book in the “Benjamin Pratt and the Keepers of the School” series starts out with a bang – sixth grade Benjamin finds the injured school janitor who (just before he dies) gives Ben a coin from 1783 that is inscribed with a mysterious message stating that the “children” must save the school from evil forces. Ben and his friend Jill take the message to heart and begin looking for clues and ways to save the school from greedy amusement park developers. Throughout their quest Ben is dealing with an overbearing classmate, an upcoming sailboat race, and the recent separation of his parents. Recommendations or Comments: Likeable characters, a fight between good and evil, an almost tragic boat race, and kids as the protagonists who will save the school/town make for good reading that will interest most kids.Reviewed By: Michèle Freese
