I love Lisa Yee's books and am envious of her ability to create such lovable, believable characters. This book is sort of the 4th book in a series, if you want to call it that, that started with 'Milicent Min, Girl Genius.' Each book tells the story of a different person (they all know each other), and Yee is great at bringing you into each character's world and making you love them. Highly recommended for middle grade readers. I am usually a big fan of Lisa Yee's books. I can't say that about this one. I liked the fact that Marley tried to solve his own problems. I found it hard to believe that not one adult noticed the constant bullying; all of the adults in the school were portrayed as barely competent. His parents seemed equally unaware that anything might be wrong. His mother was interesting because, although blind, she played golf, baked bread and taught piano lessons. However she only took an interest when Marley had girls coming over to visit or work on homework. This was an unsatisfying read from Lisa Yee.
