The cover of the book is beautiful and like i said about the 1st book i love mermaids but i was so disappointed with this book. I felt that there was no point to this book and focused so much on the relationship between Luce and Dorian which he just ended up being a jerk. The only saving grace of the book was Nausicaa and her reuniting with two of the members of her old tribe and discovering what happened to her old tribe. I hope that the next book is a lot better than this. I read the first book in this trilogy, Lost Voices, and I enjoyed it, but not so much with this second book. The basic story is that Luce, a lone mermaid who separated from her tribe previously, is needed back by the tribe because they are on the verge of collapse. That is to say the tribe all want her back except for the queen who hates Luce. To make matters worse, Luce is still in love with the human boy she broke mermaid law for, Dorian. Luce tries again to reach out to humans, but the mermaid war may interfere with any peacemaking efforts. I will have to read book number three to find out the resolution. As a side note, Waking Storms is not easy to read. There were unbelievable coincidences, dragging prose, and unnecessary descriptive passages that hampered the flow. Suitable for grades 7+ due to romance, violence, and language.
