My first mistake was thinking this was a Michael Connelly (sp?) book. It is a story about Iraq war vets in the northeast who are committing suicide at a high rate. They are all involved in a smuggling operation transporting stolen relics from a looted Iraqi museum. In the process of that looting a box is taken that houses evil. There's an additional story-line but it is a little supernatural mixed with "natural." It kept my interest but was not a best read for me. It took me a while to get into the latest installment of the Charlie Parker series, the first half of the book kept me going for the best part of a couple of weeks. But the second half of the book was devoured in under a day. Like those before it, The Whisperers built slowly and then as it began to unravel, it gathered pace and ended with a flurry of climaxes as all loose threads were nicely tied up. Not as enjoyable as the previous Charlie Parker thriller, but a good book none the less.
Another Maine evilness tale! Great Charlie Parker and evil spirits!

Well woven and gripping story, but too verbose for my taste.
