Necessary Endings written by Dr Henry Cloud is a book that readers will find themselves thinking of people in their lives who would benefit from reading this book. The basic premise of Dr Cloud's book is that often somethings must end such as relationships, partnerships, and business ventures before good things can begin. Necessary Endings is chuck full of examples and tools to deal with endings that need to occur in our lives. Dr Cloud spends several chapters describing different types of common endings which need to occur and the various techniques typically used to avoid addressing the ending.Dr Cloud hit the mark close to home with examples we all can relate to including various personal relationships, marriage situations, business environments and addictions. I especially appreciated the chapters on how to determine when an ending is necessary. "The past is the best predictor of the future" is an insightful morsel I took from the chapter which focused on the topics of dealing with troubled relationships, difficult employees/co-workers, and picking a mate. There are valuable tools in the book for recognizing the dealing with people who are fools in your life.Overall, Necessary Endings has a very comfortable, readable flow and each chapter naturally supports the other chapters. Probably not the best suited format to be used as material for a small group study discussion but I most definitely recommend it for all adults to read, especially those who might be stuck in some situation or relationship where action is needed.Given that Dr Cloud's Necessary Endings contains so many helpful tools you might expect to find it on someone's workbench in the garage but should in fact be found on everyone's must-read night stand. Good book. I actually enjoyed more than I thought I would. Starts a bit slow and Cloud spends a decent part of this time repeating his point. But, there are some good nuggets. Understanding change is a part of life and endings are a type of change creates a healthy perspective. There are some good tips in dealing with challenging people and situations. I appreciate the approach and suggestions.I would recommend this book for anyone in management and for folks that consistently find themselves in stressful situations. Maybe it's you and not the situation.
