first and foremost, it was quirky. Sometimes good quirky ,sometimes "what the heck?" quirky. The author uses a device that is a little interesting, but takes much too long to develop - I won't ruin it for you by saying what that device is. Overall the novel is not noteworthy, I've read similar things done much better. It is engaging enough, just barely, because of its oddity. I mention also that it is set in Paris with native French speakers in the narrative (the book is written in English). Here comes my peeve... why insert globs of French here and there only to footnote the translation? Given, as I say, that the book is written in English and the characters, who are French, have presumably been speaking French among each other all along. The concept of this book was enticing; the novel is based on a box of actual artifacts the author obtained from her childhood neighbor. The book includes pictures of the items - which was a little charming. Unfortunately, the story that developed out of these items was disjointed, not that thought-provoking, and somewhat disingenuous to the original owner of these items in my opinion. There wasn't adequate character development that led me to really have any heart towards these players. There wasn't much depth to the story itself. The culmination of the novel was really confusing in my opinion. This part of the story could have taken a very interesting direction if it was introduced earlier on in the novel.
Do You like book Vita Privata Di Una Sconosciuta (2011)?
Can't decide whether I loved this or the opposite. Written unlike any other book I've ever read.
