About book Vish Puri E Il Caso Dell'uomo Che Morì Ridendo (2010)
Vish Puri is asked by the police to help them solve the public but mysterious death of a well-known rationalist. The rationalist had stepped on many prominent toes while trying to disprove the work of those who perform religious miracles. Facecream, who played a large role in the first Vish Puri mystery, is back in this book. Vish Puri's mother is also trying her hand at solving another mystery - this time an armed robbery. Rumpi, Vish Puri's wife, plays a role in this mystery as well.It's a very enjoyable read filled with Indian culture - especially Indian food because Puri likes to eat! This book combined two of my favourite things - a mystery and a setting in India. Mysteries are my first love because I was hooked on Nancy Drew as a kid. I have no explanation for my love for India other than some of my favourite books were written by Indian authors. Perhaps it's the combination of an exotic locale with a lingering touch of the British empire. Tarquin Hall is not Indian, but he has lived in India and is married to an Indian woman. The local dialect combined with colourful characters and a decent mystery made this a book a happy find for me. Vish Puri, Most Private Investigator, is asked to assist with the investigation of an unusual murder after his friend, Inspector Jagat Singh, is deterred from delving too deep into the case. Like an Indian Sherlock Holmes, Puri and his cohorts ferret out the clues. A delightful aside to the story was Puri's wife and mother investigating the case of the kitty party robbery. Hall brings Dehli to life in this book. The only thing that would have made this story more enjoyable would have been a plate of aloo gobi to accompany the read.
