When a colleague introduced me to the series, he said that the second book was what really sold it to him and he couldn't wait to read the third one. After reading the first book in the series, I was skeptical about that statement. Surely, Mr. Tregillis couldn't make the story more interesting. Alas, I was wrong. The character development, the plot twists, the everything. Just, wow. Certainly one of the best books I've read this year. I mean, it's an alternate history Cold War spy story with wizards and people with (thankfully limited) super-powers... How can you go wrong?!Well, I'll tell you. Because I dropped a star for a reason. It felt short, like the mythos of the fairly fantastical characters throughout the story could have been fleshed out. I got sucked into the lore of the story, but just couldn't get enough out of what was there to feel perfectly content.Aside from this though, it was a great read. Like I said, wizards and super-powers in the Cold War! ^_^
Do You like book Visaukstākais Karš (2014)?
Maybe wait until you can read all three pretty close together. That's what I should have done.

Very bleak in parts, but stayed on the right side of it overall. Wonderful ending.
