About book Verity (2000)

This book was fine, but with so many werewolf books out there, ultimately I'm afraid it was somewhat forgettable. The book didn't move slowly, but even so, the action didn't start until 2/3 through the book. Also, Perdita was a pretty pathetic heroine. The extent to which she refused to stand up for herself and let other people tell her what to do was ridiculous. Her dad was also unrealistically overbearing-- who tells their 16 year-old daughter what to wear, and refuses to let them stay the night at a friend's house? It just wasn't believable for me. Perita's best friend's total emotional 180 was too extreme, too. One minute they're BFFs, the next minute she hates Perdita with a passion and their history together means nothing. And Perdita, being the pathetic mess she is, begs Tammi to take her back. Sad.Another thing I wasn't crazy about was the setting. I've been to Ireland. I've stayed in Dublin. Nothing about this book seemed Irish at all, except the fact that it rained once. If it had taken place in, say, Oregon, I might have believed it. But all the while I was reading this, I kept thinking how un-Irish it all seemed. Now, it wasn't all bad. Nathan and his family were very likable. (Well, except for his uncle.) The action was good, once the story finally picked up. I may continue the series if I run out of other things to read, just because there's a lot that wasn't explained in the first book. But overall, I wasn't super impressed. Destiny Binds remains my werewolf series of choice. This was a decent read which surprised me to be honest, I wasn't expecting the story that unfolded with every turn of the page. Each character had their own distinct personality and I must say I loved Nathan. He is so unlike any other male lead in most books I have read, I was never able to pinpoint his thoughts or motives and enjoyed when new things were revealed about him. I am slightly disappointed that some points were not fully explained and the actions taken by some of the characters left me confused. All in all a good book and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
