This is an amazing book. I love authors who can take a spin on mythological creatures and make them into something brand new for us readers, and that is exactly what Taylor Longford did with this novel. Most people think of gargoyles as being those ugly statues that grace the top of cathedrals and other buildings like Notre Dame, and several older buildings that still stand in Europe. However, for the characters in this novel, those are really Harpies, the enemies of the gargoyles, and gargoyles are similar but more human. In fact, they look exactly like a human except for the bat-like wings and poisonous barbs that extend from their knuckles when they are angry.And Taylor Longford is a natural storyteller. I found myself reading page after page after page, long into the night when I should have been sleeping because I could not put it down. Don't let the simple cover fool you because this is definitely a book worth reading. Wanted to like this more than I did, reckon I'm truly over the cute packs of guys show up and hang out with teenage girl genre. Wish fulfilment and underdeveloped, baby steps towards fantasy for new readers, would make some awesome erotica though but dodging the issue (the filthy associations with premature 'venom' spurting for instance...) also first person narration is the most earnest and irritating of styles. So, a two star book for me, and its back to Clive Barker for me...
