About book Unscrupulous (2013)

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 5 out of 5 stars.Reviewed for For Whom The Books Toll5, ScorchingAt thirty-three, Warner Truman is one of the richest men on the planet, a spa mogul who buys and sells resorts at will. He holds powerful executives' careers in his well-groomed hands. Nothing is beyond Warner's reach...until he meets her.Stunning, tantalizing and perverse, Taddy Brill captivates Warner's carnal desire like no woman he's ever met. A self-made millionaire, Taddy is tougher than steel, more brilliant than diamonds and, at twenty-seven, she's never depended on a man for anything...until she meets him.The more Taddy plays with Warner's affections, driving him to erotic heights, the more she is confronted by a dark past. Before she can love him, Taddy must meet her worst fears head-on or risk losing it all, including herself. My Review:Unscrupulous is a real attention grabber! I was hooked by page 1. I loved the scene where Taddy, and her friends are in her office looking through windows of other high rise buildings close by with binoculars. I laughed so hard. I can actually imagining people doing that.Warner is a little uptight after finding out his fiance was a gold digger and not who she said she was. Problem is, he can't get rid of her, she's still trying to latch onto her sugar daddy.Taddy is a workaholic and a self-made millionaire. But Taddy's childhood was a very unhappy one and she still hasn't gotten over some of the things that happened to her. She has great friends that help her through the rough times. The sexual tension between Warner and Taddy is terrific and builds throughout the story. I liked Warner and Taddy very much. Their characters were extremely well written and also seemed very real. The secondary characters were wonderful and added depth and dimension to the book. I loved the world Ms. Aster created for her characters. This story has a lot of emotions and some surprises thrown in that make it a pleasure to read. There was just enough humor written in to make me laugh. I really enjoyed reading Unscrupulous. Received ARC from author via Netgalley for an honest review...This pains me to say but I didn't like it. I mean I loved the growing relationship between Taddy and Warner, I just wish there was more of it...Most of the book danced around their missed connections --which is fine, I like that they had longings and thought about each other even when they weren't together. It's what was happening in between those thoughts that rubbed me the wrong way --let me explain...Yeah sure Taddy and Warner are both well to do people. Billionaires of Fortune 500 companies. But I didn't care about their jobs at all. So what, if they're career driving. I don't want to read about what they do at work. It made me lose focus on their relationship when their professional life was thrown in the mix, and frankly it was a waste of space --in my opinion-- that would have made the story better and perhaps have gone deeper into their relationship had it been left out completely...Also...the constant name dropping of expensive designers and high end whatnot took away from the story. I didn't like it. I wanted to care about these characters --deeply, but instead, they felt really superficial to me and it made me kind of despise the wealth that was practically being rubbed in my face at all times. Maybe that was the whole point. It just didn't sit well with me...Don't get me wrong, I would have loved the story if it weren't for those things. And I wanted a little bit more time to get to know Taddy and Warner as their relationship blossomed, but it seemed like appearances were more important then emotions. Which got lost in the fray...I haven't read the first book --I was told these books in this series are stand alones-- but if they're anything like this one, I don't know if I want to waste my time. I FEEL REALLY BAD SAYING THAT!! Even more so because this was my very first ARC! I was super stoked to receive it and anxious to love it and give my HONEST review. I tried my hardest to love it, it just didn't do it for me, I'm SOO sorry, but that's the truth.
