Book-bub e-book Set along the Maine coast which is what enticed me. Good mystery but with the premise of a too gruesome serial killer (graphic descriptions of murders) that was very hard to deal with. Innocent people getting killed thru absolutely no fault of their own. Even when they figure out the details, stupidity in protecting the other potential targets is unbelievable! Sick minds in the perpetrators - goes without saying I guess. Did have an interesting short trailer for another of his novellas See 3AM review Pretty awful. The author, looking back at his first book fondly, says he "wouldn't change a thing". I sure would. Just for starters I'd get a copy editor. Fix the errors. Then start on some kind of research so the story will seem a wee bit realistic. It has been several weeks now since I read it, so I regret that I can't lay out the several specific complaints I had about it. Perhaps for others this is a good thing - the book gets higher ratings from most reviewers so I'm just not the intended audience. Smart-ass detective who hits on female students, cheats on current lover, and has rather slow detecting skills gets involved in murders that look too much like those of a series of murders a few years before. Although authorities assume they got the right man that time, the detective has always had doubts. There are some logical inconsistencies and a lot of unrealistic procedural activities, and the women in this novel are all alike. I'd love to see some of the sexes in the sentences reversed - male instead of female and vice versa. I think much would become apparent.
