About book Uncle John's Great Big Bathroom Reader (2002)
Ant is a big fan of these books, so I got him a couple for Christmas and one for myself. I loved it and couldn't put it down. I don't even know if I chose the right version here- there are so many- but it was so interesting and covered so many different topics. I read it cover to cover instead of flipping through. I love books that are categorized as Humor/Reference. I kept finding myself searching back through the book because a topic would come up in conversation and I'd say, "I was just reading about that..."I learned about the race to build the tallest skyscrapers and the history of the Otis elevator. I learned about Nostradamus, the development of the ballpoint pen, jukeboxes, a lot about the history of the White House, cheese geography, forgotten Vice Presidents, ferret-leggers, the Warren Report, popcorn, weird medical conditions, and quotes from both wonderful and terrible people. And then there are bits of information like this:"To win at Bingo in the old days you had to ring a small bell. That's where the bing comes from."or this:"When you walk down a steep hill, the pressure on your knees is equal to three times your body weight."Huh.There is a LOT more and I'm considering sending this to some lucky friend or relative. Don't you hope it's you?
