About book Una Luna Magica A New York (2013)

When I review books, I don't do much of a plot summary, as that is easy to find from other sources. What I hope to convey is did I like or love this book and why? Hopefully, my musings will help fellow readers looking for a good read figure out whether the book in question might be for them. So, let me say I really liked this one! This book touched me deep in my one-quarter Italian roots. I loved the mystery of it all, though I was quite impatient (like Elly) for all to be revealed. There were so many themes that resonated with me: vines of emotion and events that weave through generations of family, entangling and smothering them unless they learn to break free, food and the magical healing or harm that can come from it, the oh-so-complicated relationship between mothers and daughters, and how important it is to trust your instincts and be very quiet in order to hear what the heart is saying. I picked this up because Sarah Addison Allen said that it's a good read. I love her books and the way she weaves in magic realism, so I thought it would be great. This is definitely a very good book, but it is stranger than I expected. This book is sort of a mix of fairytale, soap opera, Hallmark movie, and Lifetime movie. There are a lot of secrets and you do find out all of the answers, but it's quite the ride to get there. I definitely recommend it if you like magic realism and if you're willing to follow a few twists and turns.
