Sie haben eine besondere Beziehung zueinander, halten zusammen wie Pech und Schwefel. Für Asheley ist die Beziehung zu ihrem Bruder rein geschwisterlich, doch für Will wird es bald anders. Er fängt an für seine Schwester Gefühle zu entwickeln. Als Asheley sich mit ihrem Freund streitet kommt Will hinzu, wird eifersüchtig und es kommt zu Eklat. Craig stirbt, durch Wills Hand. Doch das ist erst der Anfang …Der Jugendroman „Brother Sister – Hört uns einfach zu“ stammt vom Autor Sean Olin. Für mich war der Autor bis zu diesem Buch noch gänzlich unbekannt.Die Protagonisten Will und Asheley sind den Autor recht gut gelungen. Will ist eigentlich ein richtig netter Kerl. Er spielt gerne Golf und ist ziemlich cool. Doch Will hat noch eine zweite Seite. Er scheint unnahbar, hat keine Freunde und verliert schnell die Kontrolle über sich. Das wiederum macht ihn unberechenbar und auch gefährlich. Asheley ist ein aufgewecktes Mädchen. Sie möchte gerne ganz normal leben, ihre kaputte Familie liebend gerne vergessen. Asheley hat einen Freund, Craig und eigentlich könnte alles gut sein. Bis zu dem Tag an dem Will anfängt Gefühle für sie zu entwickeln. Die Eltern der Geschwister sind quasi nicht vorhanden. Die Mutter ist Alkoholikerin, der Vater hat die Familie bereits früh verlassen. Der Schreibstil des Autors ist recht einfach und flüssig. Man wird als Leser mitgerissen, immer auf der Suche was ist real und was frei erfunden?Der Erzählstil macht es dem Leser nicht unbedingt einfach. Es wirkt als ob man von außen auf die Geschichte hinabblickt, es besteht das gesamte Buch über eine gewisse Distanz. Die Geschwister kommen abwechselnd zu Wort, erzählen ihre Geschichte.Die Handlung selber fand ich schon interessant. Allerdings braucht die Geschichte Zeit um sich zu entwickeln. Es dauert bis es eigentlich los geht. Dann aber ist die Handlung spannend und es gibt immer wieder Wendungen. Man fragt sich als Leser eigentlich immer wieder wie es zu den ganzen Geschehnissen kommen konnte. Es erschüttert wie die Jugendlichen bisher gelebt haben, was für Probleme sie bewältigen mussten und wie es sich auf ihr gegenwärtiges Leben ausgewirkt hat. Fazit:„Brother Sister – Hört uns einfach zu“ von Sean Olin ist ein eigentlich recht gutes Jugendbuch.Gut dargestellte Charaktere und eine nach einem verhaltenen Start interessant und spannend gestaltete Handlung haben mich am Ende nachdenklich gestimmt und auch ziemlich erschüttert zurück gelassen.Durchaus lesenswert! This book is, in a word, interesting. The narrator alternates between twins, Will and Asheley, as they give police their statements regarding murder inquiries.If you've read a lot about this book, you would have read that the ending is shocking. This is true. The ending - really, if you're one of those people who read the first and last line of a book first, don't read this book; you'll be ruining it for yourself - truly blew me away. For me, it makes the book. Before reading the last page, I was on the fence about this book, unsure of whether or not I was enjoying it or not. The last line sold me. Will and Asheley are solid characters. Throughout the book, Will becomes more and more intriguing and you can see that he's more than just a little bit messed up. He makes you uncomfortable; it's brilliant. The comparison between the two perspectives is wonderful and portrays the relationship between the two siblings effectively. When I first realised that the book would be alternating between the two characters' points of view, I was a little bit skeptical. Why? Because in the past, when I've read books that alternate between perspectives, the story gets too detached and jumpy. Either that, or there's a hell of a lot of unnecessary repetition. However, Sean Olin executed the changing of narrative beautifully. The switching didn't hinder the flow at all and I think, if anything, the constant changing added to the story. There were moments when I thought it went a little bit slowly, and there were times when its themes had me inwardly cringing. It isn't the sort of book I'd recommend reading if you're looking for a smile and a laugh. Despite this, I did, in fact, absolutely adore this book.
