About book Tutto Inizia E Finisce Al Kentucky Club (2012)

I wanted to carry this book around everywhere I went, not because I wanted to be seen as an intellectual, or deep, and soulful, but just because I wanted to talk about it with everyone I'd come in contact. Then, near the end, there were other stories that made me want to run home and cry because someone found out what I looked like inside. After I've cried down this lump in my throat to the knot in my stomach, I'll have a drink and wish for a cigarette, sorry that I can't walk over the bridge to "my" corner booth at the Kentucky Club. These stories are seemed very similar to one another. It suggested that the author had one good one that someone said he ought to turn into something larger and he took a short cut.One story that was especially vivid and well done centered on a teenager who is Hispanic and gay and who is beaten up and disfigured by a group of boys. The story recounts how he struggles to get back to normal at home with his parents and sister. And how the event has shaped him in ways he is still trying to understand. One note: The Kentucky Club in the title is apparently real and not much of a destination, according to my Texas friend.I think the effort by the author to include a reference to this club in each of his stories was a real stretch and not a successful trick.
