About book True Believers (2012)

The book as a work of fiction isn't a 5 star - though well enough written, it's not superbly written. But it contains such an important contemporary message for the "intelligentsia", it must be given as much publicity as possible.Thoughtful people are rightly concerned these days about who has power over government, the ends that government serves, the means it employs to achieve its ends, and way it controls dissent among the hoi polloi. This book which is primarily themed around the anti-war movement in 1967-8, and deals with these issues. Anyone under 60 would have missed this important event. Read this book. And particularly reflect on how the change from conscription to an "all volunteer" army has affected dissent. This book didn't do a whole lot for me. It was the first book I've read on my Kindle, so granted, it was a different reading experience. I found myself constantly keeping track of the % of the book that I had read, which I found a bit annoying. I thought the book itself was pretty slow and was annoyed by how long it took to get to the nuts and bolts of Karen's big secret. I may have just been annoyed by a first person account of a female character written by a dude. I don't know . . . I'll also admit that I'm not very interested in 1960's radicals. Overall, I just found myself bored while reading this book.
