About book Trouble With Boys: A Surprising Report Card On Our Sons, Their Problems At School, And What Parents And Educators Must Do (2014)

Every teacher should read this book! It should be required reading for all student teachers for sure. Very interesting data and research showing the ever widening gap between boys and girls and school achievement. My 5 year old nephew, who is full of questions, curiosity, and fun was recently reprimanded in kindergarten for not sitting quietly for the full half hour in circle time. Apparently he had trouble sitting still, so got sent to the corner, to sit some more. I want to send his teacher this book. Many kind hearted and well meaning teachers just don't 'get' boys.I think my nephew and all little boys out there would benefit from wide study of this work. Raising Boys, Molding Players, Producing Men: How Coach Roger Barta and the town of Smith Center creates champions.Written by New York Times reporter Joe Drape, Our Boys chronicles the 2008 varsity football season of the Redmen, a perennial 2A football powerhouse forged from the strong backs and calloused hands of young men raised and fortified through the hard work and universal community support in Smith Center, Kansas, a small farming community gaining nationwide recognition through their football prowess. Leading the Redmen is Roger Barta, a legendary football coach who has guided the school of Smith Center - with a student body of just over 150 students - towards football dominance, four straight 2A state titles, and a winning streak that has spanned long enough to threaten the Kansas state record of 65 consecutive victories.
