Alexander McCall Smith's writing puts our flaws and those of our companions into beautiful perspective. People constantly surprise one another with their unexpected goodness and normality. This book pulls together the love stories of four people who meet on a train. Those stories are so common, but AMS writes about them in such a way as to remind us of their importance and keep us looking for them in our own lives. an easy read. The author has such a fluid writing style.I wasn't sure about this.. thinking it would be a lovey dovey type book.. I got a Lil more out of it hence why I continued... I enjoyed the read featuring Jenny and the other Hermione. I have to agree with another reviewer M who highlighted that it felt "like a string of narratives harvested from a notebook and tossed onto the train with 3 men and a woman to tell them".however, some of it worked.. Most didn't. Some sounded too similar.still... I didn't chuck it so it can't be too bad. I reckon his 44 Scotland street or Portuguese irregular verbs are much better.
If possible, I would rate this book one million stars because it was beautiful.
