Possible spoilers. I read some reviews prior to reading this document (Lisa Lutz is hysterical). I am a big believer in things evolving. It felt that her last book should have been the last one. In fact, I really didn't realize that it wasn't until I was almost finished with the book. Despite what many reviewers think, I liked it. Isabel is clearly missing Morty. I miss Morty. She is an investigator with a soft spot. In this edition, Isabel has three mysterious clients two of which interact. Her father, trying to save the reputation of the company enacts a Chinese Wall, this means no communication from one case to another. Isabel likes to meddle and answer question. She can't be objective which we knew but as invested readers, it helps to know how far she is willing to go. At the end you are hoping for her because she represents a part of ourselves. Rae is trying to win back Fred. Demetrius Merriweather is now employee of the month and part of the Spellman clan. There is an introduction of Grammy Spellman, a racist, judgmental woman who drives all of the Spellman clan crazy. Isabel's mother has found a way to be busy around her mother-in-law. David is busy being Mr. Mom and for whatever reason is having a feud with Rae (spoiler: she messes with his daughter's language skills). Most importantly, Henry wants kids and Izzy doesn't think she does and they break up even though you get the sense that they are met for each other (especially after meeting his mother). It's Izzy's way or no way as she does the unthinkable and breeches investigator protocol for an innocent but wealthy subject when Izzy learns that there is an cheating wife and a conniving ex-husband in the picture. Her father says leave it alone but she can't and when it lands her fired from the company, Izzy does what she has to and assumes control over the company. I loved it. Say what you will. And listen, if you don't like Lutz telling you to read the other Documents in her footnotes then too bad for you!!! (She mentioned that some people got angry with her for it.)
