About book Tout Au Long De La Route (2011)

This book has been on Liam's to-read list forever because I thought it sounded cool. It is the story of a man who travels on a circuit around his town and a few others in the area, and the things that happen to him along the way. I liked that the road in the book went through the front and back covers, end pages and continued through the book. Plus my son seemed fascinated by the simple rhyming text and the bold colors and glossy paper they were printed on. Recommended for ages 1-5, 3 stars. The book called out from the new book shelf the other day. I even checked it out. I mentioned it to my boss. She said looked like a Caldecott contender. From the book jacket it looks like Frank Viva lives in Canada, so don't know if he would be eligible. It's perfect for 3 to 4 year olds. Pictures feature an androgynous, ageless figure on an imaginative bike. The pictures are maybe too clean. I love texture and some imperfections, personally. The words teach kids important concepts and they can follow the wonderfully colored mustard yellow road all day. I always like when words and pictures work together to create that wonderful magic together. This book does it. It sings.

I absolutely love the artwork in this story. Friendly story about riding a bike along a long road.

Great read-aloud with lots of directional words ("up", "down", "around", etc.)

I liked the flow of the road throughout the book, but otherwise, it was okay.

A visual treat, using only 4 colors. The joy is in the journeY!
