About book To Protect & Serve (2012)

This is a Christian fiction book based on the relationship of Jeff and Lisa. Jeff has to be the shyest male lead of a book that I have ever read. I think that I relate to his reactions because he reminds me of one of my boys in the shyness with girls department. Jeff is a firefighter who meets Lisa who owns her own advertising business. Jeff is so sweet and does the right thing even when he doesn't try. I have to say that I didn't like Lisa at times. I thought she was bossy and a bit full of herself. Then there were times where she redeemed herself. This is a book about the relationship of firefighters. We get to see how they interact with each other as well as how their loved ones react to the dangers of their job. Lisa tries to decide if she can handle those dangers and be in a relationship with Jeff. There is some angst. There are sweet moments. There are sad moments. There are those moments in which I wanted to slap both Lisa and Jeff. This is a clean, sweet read with no cliffhanger and dual point of view. At first, I wasn't sure if I liked the book. 1) The meetings were so awkward and all they did was dream about each other for weeks after their first meeting. But... then I realized it wasn't a drawback, but an accurate picture of first experiences with a person you really like. (As one of the married characters said, "I'm glad I'm past that stage.")2) The girl seemed so stupidly helpless around "bad" guys, getting herself into situations where she could be compromised, while seeming to be pretty well able to refuse the good guy. Then... I realized that, while I didn't agree with the author's tactics, it was a genius way of wrapping my emotions into the story.3) There is a lot of mild sexual hints. Guys making references (sometimes by code) of different girl parts they find pleasing. The girl finally beds with the good guy, but just laying there - no "bad stuff"... stilllll....4) The girl winds her hair around her finger or puts it behind her ear like a KA-zillion times.. till you almost wonder if that's the only action she does. Besides swimming in her lover's blue eyes. And the book talks a million times about their brains going haywire. As if I hadn't noticed.... Those weren't necessarily drawbacks... just so repetitive it got oldddddd. There are great action scenes - gotta love that!Well written prose (although some misspellings did stand out)Dealt with different issues - death, unresolved conflict, false guilt, fear, stress, love, etc.All-in-all, I enjoyed the book and hope to read more by the author :)
