This is the first book in a series largely set in Louisiana bayou country. I got the book for free through a BookBub.com deal and wasn't expecting too much. But I was expecting a book, not a short story. That was my main disappointment. Because it was so short, none of the characters had a chance to come alive in the story. Plus the ending was so improbable I just had to laugh! I plan to read the next one in the series and hope it is better. I am rooting for this author who lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, not far from where I lived for many years. Two women from New Orleans are trying to build a life for themselves in New York City, when one of them comes home after a date to find her roommate grotesquely murdered in their apartment. Trying to find who could have murdered her roommate, Josephine, takes Fanchon back to the bayou and the family and friends she left behind.This is the first in the series of New Orleans mysteries and is a short read. It's pretty interesting and is a good thriller despite it's length and I'm going go read the second to see if the author manages to develop the characters further.
