About book To Live Is Christ To Die Is Gain (2013)
My first Chandler book, a laymen's commentary of Philippians. While he was phenomenal at application questions and really focused on the Gospel as central to all of life, his writing style often lacked the grace and depth I appreciate in older writers and his general man-to-man kind of rhetoric would sometimes throw me off balance. That said, if this is your kind of thing, it is a very good starter or refresher for the book of Philippians. Chandler is deeply passionate about the Gospel of Jesus and he will make you think about what it means for your life. Pastor Matt Chandler expands on Paul's letter in Philippians, while at the same time, referencing Paul's life to give it context. I think the best wrap up and tie in I've ever seen happens in the last three chapters, when Chandler connects Paul's days in the opulent provision of Lydia's house and his nights bleeding in jail to "I have learned the secret to be content in every circumstances..." This book was a great encouragement to me, and I think I'll look at all of Paul's letters to the churches in a different light from now on.

I liked it but there were some repetitive elements in it taken from Explicit Gospel.
