About book To Heaven And Back: The True Story Of A Doctor's Extraordinary Walk With God (2011)

I enjoyed the story but can clearly tell her strong points are not necessarily in writing. She had a decent enough life story and was very positive in her message. I think her writing style could easily be read for every type of person, which probably adds to the appeal (and sales). I am fascinated by NDE and what it all entails, and it had a small portion of that, but I have read other accounts that were more intriguing to me. 3 stars for the story Dr.Neal told and 2 more stars for the courage to tell it. This surgeon had little to gain in writing this book and her reputation as an esteemed surgeon to lose. But God can be stubborn when he asks something of someone. I have much skepticism in regards to NDEs so what drew me to Dr.Neal's book was her clinical knowledge in the medical field. This was not just going to be spiritual primer and I was not disappointed. She convinced me this is a true story. Some mention this is just another story of "light and angels" as if this is a needless repeat. However I see this as part of an extraordinary pattern. I have not read any other account but had the opportunity to read observations written by a hospice nurse. Her patients that were able to communicate would relate very similar sights and sounds: angels, family members, beautiful music.I wish I could read an account of Near Death by someone of another faith other than Christian, but is there one? Surely Christians aren't the only ones who have seen heaven...or are they? Maybe there's something to that.About the owl- God has spoken through a burning bush, dreams, and a donkey to name a few. I believe He still has command over the universe and will use anything at His disposal to speak to those who will listen.Thomas Aquinas wrote:To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.

Do You like book To Heaven And Back: The True Story Of A Doctor's Extraordinary Walk With God (2011)?

I really enjoyed reading this book. The beginning grabbed my attention right away because it made me wonder what was going to happen next with the accident and how she would get out. I also was wondering what experiences she would have in heaven. I didn't like that it took so long to get to the part that tells about her experiences in heaven. I wasn’t sure what the author would be able to talk about after she described her accident, heaven experiences and other great experiences where God had helped her. I think that she still had great content in her story even after telling her story about the accident and heaven. She had a lot of tough things happen in her life that I can somewhat relate to. I like that she told about her family and had them be a big part in her story. She did a great job including s much detail and including so many people that were only a part of her story for a short time. She also mentions how much of an impact a person made in her life even if God only allowed them in her life for a small part of her story. In conclusion, this was a really good and interesting book. She had great information and details about her relationship with God. She explained her experiences where God showed himself very well. Lastly, she kept me interested in what was going to happen next in the story.

Badly injured in a kayak accident in Chile, the author briefly left her body, died, witnessed angels and then returned back to her body, leaving her profoundly changed. After her experience, her way of processing things and looking at life and events forever changed.I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I do believe that there are guardian angels, I do believe in the afterlife. I simply thought the author was a bit to preachy. This is very objective and perhaps too critical. I may need more time to process my thoughts/feelings.While not discrediting her experience, the book felt simplistic.

Love this book. Mary includes some of my favorite bible verses.
