About book Three And Out: Rich Rodriguez And The Michigan Wolverines In The Crucible Of College Football (2011)
What a book! Well, I think it was. But Three And Out was a fantastic book. Giving out facts and information about Michigan football was a great thing to read. Including the ideas of the program at Michigan that equaled out to be one of the greatest football states ever. Three And Out isn't just about information towards the program, it also tells you about how it was started and had affect to NCAA football. Listing all factors about it. Now from the main ideal of the cover, a great chunk of the book covers Rich Rodriguez's life and what he did at Michigan. You could think of this book as a documentary about his life and Michigan football as you would see on tv. I mean, I would greatly recommend this book. But for people who aren't all about sports or aren't the biggest fans for sports, I wouldn't think you would greatly enjoy this book as much as I did. Now for people who love sports and are all about it, you should definitely read this book. For me being a huge Michigan fan, this book brought me great pleasure to read and to learn about my favorite school and sport. I've been meaning to read this book ever since it came out and just got around to it. In some ways reading this a few years after the events depicted is like reading a detailed account of a car wreck you drove past on the interstate a year ago. You remember what happened but the detailed account reminds you of the horrible details you'd forgotten.Speaking as a Michigan fan, I always liked Rich Rodriguez - I was excited when he was hired, thought we'd gotten an exciting coach who could bust us out of the ultraconservative Lloydball we'd been playing. I fully expected that he'd struggle the first year and then things would start to turn around. While that did happen on the offensive side of the football, it never did happen on the defensive side under RichRod - and even the offense didn't seem to be able to be consistent in their progress. It always puzzled me - but reading about the amount of distraction RR had to go through - getting sabotaged from within his own department, the Free Press constantly on him in what really did seem to be a baseless slander campaign it's a little easier to understand. RR certainly made some mistakes - it's pretty clear from the book that he was naive about the politics of the situation he was getting into, and he really hurt himself on the PR front - but I ended the book thinking that Michigan treated a good guy quite shabbily.
