About book This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography, And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx (2011)

This is gonna Hurt.I'm not sure what rating to give this book.So I give it four. As with the Heroin Diaries, I knew I loved it, but I'm not entirely sure why. It might be the honesty that Sixx showed through the pages of his words and pictures, or the insane fasciation I've grown with this band. I'm talking about Motley, not Sixx:AM even if the music is deeper and a tinny bit better. After the Heroin Diaries I felt compelled to be a rock star...after this book , I felt a need to change what I don't like about my life. Nikki remarked a hundred times that all he wants to accomplish with this book is to touch the people who read it. I can safely say that he has succeeded. - But I can only speak for myself. The man shining through these pages seems to be marginally different from the one seen in Heroin Diaries, and rightfully so. The Nikki Sixx in Heroin diaries was a man chased by demons and hunted by the voices in his own head, the one in this book seemed to be the happiest man alive. I'm not saying that he doesn't get sad - his heart gets broken actually- but he powers through it in a way I, as an almost 21 year old, has obviously not yet mastered. The words he writes - and sings- are as powerful as a fist to the heart and a blow to the head. - As is the pain in my heart when I realise I will never see Motley live.I'm not an avid reader of biographies' / autobiographies', I've tried reading 'Slash' and the Bon Jovi book but somehow they palled in comparison. Both Heroin diaries and This is gonna hurt admits a light of honesty you don't expect from someone who's made his fortune two times over. Admittedly I found myself wondering if all of this was just a ploy, and if Sixx is sitting in his chair at Funny Farm laughing his head off at the people like me who actually believes what is written.Regardless, I will recommend this book to EVERYONE. I'm not an addict , or a homeless person , nor do I have any actual serious problems , but I loved this book. I tried to read a light , easy book after finishing this , but it all just seemed fake and stupid. My advise: READ THIS AND HEROIN DIARIES. :)I haven't read 'The Dirt' yet, but I will.:) Once again, Nikki Sixx is better than everyone else. He feels, and proves with this book, that he can profit from the misfortune of other people. His tales of going out and finding f****d up people to be his muses for photography is pretty disgusting. He's made millions of dollars writing songs a lot of people like, so in his mind it's cool to go out and entertain himself on the backs of the misery of the less fortunate. Further, he's "so great" that he can write a book about it and brag on it. Nikki comes off like an idiot here.

If taking pictures helped Nikki overcome addiction, then better that then self destruction.
